NEP 2020 envisions every higher education institution growing into a large multidisciplinary institution with 3000 or more students by 2040.

A figure of 4000 or more is higher than the target the policy sets.

A figure of 2500 or more understates the envisaged minimum strength.

A figure of 5000 or more overshoots the stated benchmark.

The aim is to end small single-stream colleges and build vibrant multidisciplinary campuses.

The policy also seeks at least one large such institution in or near every district by 2030.
