Assertion (A): Statement I: In August 1942, Mahatma Gandhi was arrested under the Defence of India Rules, following the Quit India resolution, and lodged in the Yerwada jail.

Reason (R): Statement II: In January 1932, Mahatma Gandhi was arrested under the Bombay Regulation of 1827 and interned in the Aga Khan Palace, Poona.

ABoth Statement I and Statement II are true
BBoth Statement I and Statement II are false ✓ Correct
CStatement I is true but Statement II is false
DStatement I is false but Statement II is true
Correct answer: (B) Both Statement I and Statement II are false — Both statements are false, so the answer is both false.
Explanation
Both statements are false, so the answer is both false.
In August 1942 Mahatma Gandhi was arrested and lodged in the Aga Khan Palace, not the Yerwada jail.
Sarojini Naidu was also lodged in the Aga Khan Palace at that time.
In January 1932 Gandhi was arrested and lodged in the Yerwada jail, not the Aga Khan Palace.
There he fasted against the Communal Award of MacDonald, and the Poona Pact was signed on 26 September 1932.
So both statements have the jails interchanged and are therefore false.
