Given below are two statements, one labelled as Assertion (A) and the other labelled as Reason (R). Select the correct answer from the codes given below:

Assertion (A): Assertion (A): Herbert Simon has ridiculed the classical theory of organization as a machine model theory.

Reason (R): Reason (R): Classicists are too much preoccupied with the formal structural part of organization, and that too at the cost of human factors.

ABoth A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A ✓ Correct
BBoth A and R are true, but R is not the correct explanation of A
CA is true, but R is false
DA is false, but R is true
Correct answer: (A) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A — Both A and R are true and R explains A, so the answer is option A.
Explanation
Both A and R are true and R explains A, so the answer is option A.
Herbert Simon attacked the classical theory of organisation as a rigid machine model in 'Administrative Behavior' (1947).
He dismissed the classical principles as mere proverbs, clichés and slogans, so the assertion is true.
The reason is also true: the classical writers fixed on formal structure and ignored the human side of organisations.
Because they reduced workers to cogs in a mechanism, their theory reads like a description of a machine.
That neglect of human factors is exactly why Simon could call their model mechanical.
Hence both statements are true and R is the correct explanation of A, giving option A.
