CA is true, but R is false ✓ Correct
DA is false, but R is true
Correct answer: (C) A is true, but R is false — The assertion is true but the reason is false, so the answer is A true but R false.
Explanation
The assertion is true but the reason is false, so the answer is A true but R false.
Bhandarkar does equate the Virashaiva with the Lingayat sect.
He traces its origin to a split in the Aradhya school of the Saivas.
So the assertion is true.
But the Lingayat movement opposed Brahmanical rituals and caste, it did not accept them.
Its first acharya was Basava, who taught equality, so the reason is false.
