Given below are two statements, one labelled as Assertion (A) and the other labelled as Reason (R). Select the correct answer from the codes given below.

Assertion (A): In the medieval period the madrasas continued to be concerned principally with Muslim theology and its vast literature.

Reason (R): Much of the higher instruction was undertaken outside the madrasas, by individual teachers who often gave their personal certificates.

ABoth A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A
BBoth A and R are true, but R is not the correct explanation of A ✓ Correct
CA is true, but R is false
DA is false, but R is true
Correct answer: (B) Both A and R are true, but R is not the correct explanation of A — Both statements are true but the reason does not explain the assertion, so the answer is both true with R not explaining A.
Explanation
Both statements are true but the reason does not explain the assertion, so the answer is both true with R not explaining A.
The madrasas in the medieval period dealt mainly with Muslim theology and its literature.
So the assertion is true.
Much higher instruction was indeed given outside the madrasas by individual teachers.
So the reason is also true.
But the work of these teachers does not explain why the madrasas focused on theology, so it is not the explanation.
