Given below are two statements, one labelled as Assertion (A) and the other labelled as Reason (R). Select the correct answer from the codes given below.

Assertion (A): Ramchandra Pant Amatya, in his Ajnapatra, strongly disapproves of the system of hereditary assignments (vritti) out of land revenue, on the ground that it led to a continuous decline of the government income.

Reason (R): Ramchandra Pant says it is a sin to resume a hereditary preferment (vritti), however small it may be; it should not be transferred to another, nor should it be resumed.

ABoth A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A
BBoth A and R are true, but R is not the correct explanation of A ✓ Correct
CA is true, but R is false
DA is false, but R is true
Correct answer: (B) Both A and R are true, but R is not the correct explanation of A — Both statements are true but the reason does not explain the assertion, so the answer is both true with R not explaining A.
Explanation
Both statements are true but the reason does not explain the assertion, so the answer is both true with R not explaining A.
Ramchandra Pant Amatya did disapprove of hereditary assignments of land revenue.
He said they led to a decline of the government income.
So the assertion is true.
He also said it was a sin to resume a hereditary vritti.
But this respect for the vritti does not explain his disapproval of the system, so it is not the explanation.
