Given below are two statements, one labelled as Assertion (A) and the other labelled as Reason (R). Select the correct answer from the codes given below.

Assertion (A): Despite its name, the Hindu Code Bill was to apply to Sikhs, Buddhists and Jains as well as Hindu castes and sects.

Reason (R): After independence, among those favouring a common civil code were the Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and the law minister Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

ABoth A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A
BBoth A and R are true, but R is not the correct explanation of A ✓ Correct
CA is true, but R is false
DA is false, but R is true
Correct answer: (B) Both A and R are true, but R is not the correct explanation of A — Both statements are true but the reason does not explain the assertion, so the answer is both true with R not explaining A.
Explanation
Both statements are true but the reason does not explain the assertion, so the answer is both true with R not explaining A.
The Hindu Code Bill was indeed to apply to Sikhs, Buddhists and Jains as well as Hindus.
So the assertion is true.
Nehru and Ambedkar did favour a common civil code.
So the reason is true as well.
But their wish for a common civil code does not explain why the Hindu Code Bill covered these other communities.
