Given below are two statements, one labelled as Assertion (A) and the other labelled as Reason (R). In the light of the above statements, choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below.

Assertion (A): The people of the Harappan civilization are said to have had commercial links with the people of the Tigris and Euphrates basins.

Reason (R): There is no archaeological evidence to substantiate the hypothesis of trade links with Mesopotamia.

ABoth A and R are correct and R is the correct explanation of A
BBoth A and R are correct but R is not the correct explanation of A
CA is correct but R is not correct ✓ Correct
DA is not correct but R is correct
Correct answer: (C) A is correct but R is not correct — The assertion is correct but the reason is not, so the answer is A correct but R not correct.
Explanation
The assertion is correct but the reason is not, so the answer is A correct but R not correct.
The Harappans did have commercial links with the people of the Tigris and Euphrates basins.
So the assertion is correct.
The reason is wrong, as there is in fact much archaeological evidence for these trade links.
Many Harappan seals have been found at Mesopotamian sites.
So the assertion is correct while the reason is not.
