Explanation
Both are correct and R explains A, so the answer is both correct with R explaining A.
Rajendra Chola, who ruled from 1012 to 1044 CE, expanded his kingdom through powerful maritime expeditions.
He conquered Sri Lanka in 1017 and the Srivijaya kingdom of Malaya, Sumatra and Java in 1035.
Later he lost interest in further campaigns.
The later Chola kings Rajadhiraja II, Rajendra II and Vira Rajendra got involved in wars with the Chalukyas.
This involvement made them withdraw their troops to the mainland, so the reason explains the assertion.
