Global Citizenship Education promotes

Global Citizenship Education, a strand of Sustainable Development Goal target 4.7, aims to build more peaceful, tolerant, inclusive, secure and sustainable societies by nurturing respect for diversity and a shared humanity.

It does not seek a single set of common international laws for citizenship, which is a legal-political matter beyond education.

Nor does it deal with visa-based citizenship disputes between countries.

It is also not about international public relations or image management.

It fosters learners' sense of belonging to a common humanity and active engagement with global challenges like climate change and inequality.

UNESCO promotes it as a key means to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
