If a person travels by car at 36 km/hr, he reaches his destination on time. He covers half the journey in 4/5 of the time. What speed should he maintain for the remaining part to reach on time?
A80 km/hr
B75 km/hr
C90 km/hr ✓ Correct
D85 km/hr
Correct answer: (C) 90 km/hr — The required speed is 90 km/hr, so that is the answer.
Explanation
The required speed is 90 km/hr, so that is the answer.
At 36 km/hr the total time to cover distance d is d over 36.
Half the journey takes four-fifths of that time.
So only one-fifth of the time remains for the second half.
Speed is half distance over the remaining time, which works out to 90.
Hence 90 km/hr is correct.
