Vivekananda's primary role as a religious leader, which made him also the undisputed spiritual leader of the Indian freedom movement, has been aptly shown by Chakravarti Rajagopalachari, a man of keen intellect and wisdom and also an important leader of the freedom movement. To quote him: 'Swami Vivekananda saved Hinduism and saved India. But for him we would have lost our religion and would not have gained our freedom. We therefore owe everything to Swami Vivekananda.'
