History · Rise of Indian Nationalism UGC NET June 2024 History (Re-Exam Shift-II)
Passage
Although Savarkar himself moved to London in 1906, his organization continued to flourish in India. It seriously embraced revolutionary activities and attempted to spread them throughout Maharashtra. It preached the mantra of independence and sang songs of freedom, the core of which was 'liberation of India from foreign rulers'. At that time a network of secret societies existed throughout the province. Many colleges and higher educational institutions had at least one secret society. The activities of the societies included training and stockpiling weapons and explosives wherever and whenever possible. When Savarkar moved to London in 1906, he secretly sent weapons for the society's purposes.
