Which of the following statements are not correct in regard to music? Select the correct answer from the code given below.
  • 1. Barani writes about young girls being trained by Indian courtesans in Persian and Indian music for the Delhi Court in the late thirteenth century.
  • 2. Amir Khusrau in 1318 claimed that Indian music had pre-eminence over the music of all other countries.
  • 3. Abul Fazl does not include the names of musicians in the Ain-i-Akbari.
  • 4. Nayak Bakhshu was the recognized master of khayal.
A1, 2 and 3
B3 and 4 ✓ Correct
C1 and 3
D1, 2, 3 and 4
Correct answer: (B) 3 and 4 — Statements 3 and 4 are not correct, so the answer is 3 and 4.
Explanation
Statements 3 and 4 are not correct, so the answer is 3 and 4.
Abul Fazl does in fact include the names of musicians in the Ain-i-Akbari.
He mentions Tansen as a musician there, so statement 3 is wrong.
Nayak Bakhshu was a master of dhrupad, not of khayal, so statement 4 is wrong.
Khayal is linked rather with Amir Khusrau, who is credited with inventing it.
So the two incorrect statements are the third and the fourth.
