A girl starts walking towards the south from point U. She walks 50 metres, turns right and walks 30 metres, turns right again and walks 40 metres, then moves eastwards and goes 40 metres, stopping at point W. How far is the girl from her starting point U?
A5√10 m
B2√10 m
C10 m
D10√2 m ✓ Correct
Answer: D
Explanation
★Tracing the path, the net displacement is 10 metres south and 10 metres east, so the straight distance is the square root of (100+100) = 10√2 metres. Hence option D.
