NEP 2020 sets 2040 as the target year by which every higher education institution should transform into a large, multidisciplinary institution.

2035 is the milestone year set for reaching a 50 percent gross enrolment ratio, not for multidisciplinary conversion.

2025 is far too early and matches no structural target in the policy.

2045 lies beyond the horizon the policy fixes for institutional restructuring.

The aim is to end fragmented single-stream colleges and build vibrant multidisciplinary campuses with 3,000 or more students.

The policy also envisages large multidisciplinary universities and colleges in or near every district by 2030.
