It began as a small unitary and teaching university before growing into one of India's largest.

The year 1916 predates its founding and marks other universities such as Banaras Hindu University.

The year 1947 falls well after Delhi University was already functioning.

The year 1954 is much later than its actual establishment.

Delhi University started with only three colleges and about seven hundred and fifty students.
