DA is false, but R is true
Correct answer: (C) A is true, but R is false — The assertion is true but the reason is false, so the answer is A true and R false.
Explanation
The assertion is true but the reason is false, so the answer is A true and R false.
Sirajuddaulah was defeated by a small Company army at Plassey in 1757.
The battle was won mainly through the treachery of his own commander Mir Jafar.
So the assertion is correct.
The reason is false, for his defeat was not due to a lack of Hindu support.
Many Hindus, such as Mohan Lal, in fact stayed loyal to the Nawab.
