Study carefully the table given below and answer the question asked here under. The following table gives the percentage of students belonging to low income group in each of the five colleges A, B, C, D and E, along with the proportion of males and females with and without low income.
| College Name | Percentage of students with low income | With low income (M:F) | Without low income (M:F) |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | 35 | 5:6 | 6:7 |
| B | 25 | 3:5 | 4:5 |
| C | 24 | 1:2 | 2:3 |
| D | 19 | 3:2 | 4:3 |
| E | 15 | 5:3 | 3:2 |
If the number of males without low income in College E is 2295, then the total number of students in College E is:
Let the total in College E be T. In College E, 15 percent are in the low income group, so 85 percent, that is 0.85 T, are without low income. Among these the male to female ratio is 3 : 2, so males are 3 of every 5, giving males without low income as 3 by 5 of 0.85 T, which is 0.51 T. Setting 0.51 T equal to 2295 gives T equal to 2295 divided by 0.51, which is 4500.
