Paper 1 · Mathematical Reasoning and Aptitude
Kumar walked 5 m north, took a left turn and walked 10 m, then took a right turn and walked 20 m, and again took a right turn and walked 10 m. How far is he from the starting point?
A20 m
B15 m
C25 m ✓ Correct
D30 m
Correct answer: (C) 25 m — He is 25 m from the start, so that is the answer.
Explanation
He is 25 m from the start, so that is the answer.
Walking 5 m north and then 20 m more north adds up to 25 m north.
The left turn takes him 10 m west, and the later right turn takes him 10 m east.
The 10 m west and 10 m east cancel to zero.
So he is left only 25 m to the north.
So he is 25 m from the starting point.
