The NEP envisages the setting up of the

NEP 2020 envisages setting up a National Research Foundation to fund, mentor and build a strong research culture across disciplines.

It is meant to seed and grow quality research in universities and colleges, including in the arts and social sciences.

The policy does not propose Regional Research Councils as this apex body.

It does not name a National Research Commission for this purpose.

Nor does it create a National Research Regulatory Authority for research funding.

The National Research Foundation was later given statutory shape through the Anusandhan National Research Foundation.
