The following table shows the percentage distribution of wheat production in seven different countries, namely India, China, Japan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Pakistan and Bangladesh, by deploying the Scientific Method and the Conventional Method. The total production of wheat in these countries is 50 lakh tonnes. The distribution of wheat production, then the Scientific Method share and the Conventional Method share, is India 18 percent, 32 percent and 68 percent; China 22 percent, 70 percent and 30 percent; Japan 20 percent, 78 percent and 22 percent; Sri Lanka 13 percent, 60 percent and 40 percent; Indonesia 10 percent, 73 percent and 27 percent; Pakistan 9 percent, 66 percent and 34 percent; Bangladesh 8 percent, 20 percent and 80 percent. Based on the data, answer the questions that follow.
The production of wheat in Sri Lanka by the Conventional Method is approximately how many times the production of wheat in India by the Scientific Method?
A1.5
B0.9 ✓ Correct
C2.1
D1.2
Correct answer: (B) 0.9 — It is about 0.9 times, so the answer is 0.9.
Explanation
It is about 0.9 times, so the answer is 0.9.
Sri Lanka's conventional production is 50 times 13 percent times 40 percent, which is 2.6 lakh tonnes.
India's scientific production is 50 times 18 percent times 32 percent, which is 2.88 lakh tonnes.
So the multiple is 2.6 divided by 2.88.
That is about 0.9.
So the Sri Lanka conventional figure is about 0.9 times the India scientific figure.
So the answer is 0.9.
