Paper 1 · Data Interpretation
UGC NET December 2022 (22.02.2023) Shift-II
Passage
The following table shows the population of five villages A to E and the percentage distribution of males (M), females (F) and transgenders (T) among them. Village A has a total population of 12000 with 46 percent males and 22 percent transgenders. Village B has 16000 with 33 percent females and 27 percent transgenders. Village C has 18000 with 32 percent males and 36 percent females. Village D has 24000 with 36 percent males and 20 percent transgenders. Village E has 25000 with 30 percent females and 25 percent transgenders. Any missing percentage is to be computed as the remaining share, since the three groups add up to 100 percent. Based on the data, answer the questions that follow.
The total number of females in Villages B and D together is what percent more than the number of males in Village C?
A275
B225
C125
D175 ✓ Correct
Correct answer: (D) 175 — The total is 175 percent more, so the answer is 175.
Explanation
★The total is 175 percent more, so the answer is 175.
★Females in Village B are 33 percent of 16000, which is 5280.
★Females in Village D are the remaining 44 percent of 24000, which is 10560.
★So the two together give 5280 plus 10560, which is 15840.
★Males in Village C are 32 percent of 18000, which is 5760.
★The excess is 15840 minus 5760, which is 10080, and as a percentage of 5760 that is 10080 over 5760 times 100.
★That equals 175 percent.
