Newspaper W is printed in 500 copies and distributed as 1500, 1000, 500 and 500 across Cities 1 to 4. Newspaper X is printed in 10000 copies and distributed as 3000, 3500, 1500 and 1000. Newspaper Y is printed in 10000 copies and distributed as 35000, 3000, 1500 and 500. Newspaper Z is printed in 50000 copies and distributed as 1000, 1000, 500 and 1500. Based on the data in the table, answer the questions that follow.
Which newspaper has the highest distribution?
ANewspaper Z
BNewspaper W
CNewspaper Y ✓ Correct
DNewspaper X
Correct answer: (C) Newspaper Y — The National Testing Agency dropped this item from evaluation, so no option is a settled key.
Explanation
The National Testing Agency dropped this item from evaluation, so no option is a settled key.
The question asks which newspaper has the highest total distribution.
The answer depends on the Newspaper Y City 1 value printed as 35000.
That figure is inconsistent with the small values for all the other newspapers.
With that anomaly Newspaper Y appears highest, but the value is not reliable.
So the comparison cannot be made soundly from the printed data.
For that reason the agency cancelled the question.
