Paper 1 · Mathematical Reasoning and Aptitude UGC NET December 2021 June 2022 (21.09.2022) Shift-I
A man reaches his destination 40 minutes late if his speed is 3 km per hour, and reaches 30 minutes before time if his speed is 4 km per hour. Find the distance of his destination from his starting point.
A13 km
B14 km ✓ Correct
C15 km
D16 km
Correct answer: (B) 14 km — The answer is 14 km.
Explanation
The answer is 14 km.
Let the distance be x, so the times at 3 and 4 km per hour are x over 3 and x over 4.
Being 40 minutes late and 30 minutes early makes a difference of 70 minutes, or 7 over 6 of an hour.
So x over 3 minus x over 4 equals 7 over 6.
That gives x over 12 equal to 7 over 6, so x is 14.
So the distance is 14 km.
So the answer is 14 km.
