Paper 1 · Mathematical Reasoning and Aptitude UGC NET December 2021 June 2022 (21.09.2022) Shift-II
A retailer marks all his goods at 50 percent above the cost price and, thinking that he will still make a 25 percent profit, offers a discount of 25 percent on the marked price. What is the actual profit he earns on his sales?
A25%
B12%
C12.50% ✓ Correct
D15%
Correct answer: (C) 12.50% — The answer is 12.5 percent.
Explanation
The answer is 12.5 percent.
Take the cost price as 100, so the marked price is 150.
A 25 percent discount on 150 removes 37.5, leaving a selling price of 112.5.
So the selling price is 112.5 against a cost of 100.
The actual profit is therefore 12.5 percent.
This is less than the 25 percent he expected.
So the answer is 12.5 percent.
