As per the classical Indian school of logic (Nyaya), which fallacy is committed when the middle term is too wide?

When the middle term is too wide the Nyaya fallacy committed is the sadharana.

A too-wide reason is present not only where the major term holds but also where it is absent.

Because it strays into both similar and dissimilar instances, it cannot fix a single conclusion.

Such a reason wanders and yields no definite result, an inconclusive middle.

This over-general, straying middle term is classed under savyabhichara as the sadharana type.

Excess width, spreading the reason too far, is the mark of the sadharana hetvabhasa.
