Paper 1 · Mathematical Reasoning and Aptitude
Ravi cycled 10 km south, turned right and cycled 5 km, then again turned right and cycled 10 km, then turned left and cycled 10 km. How far must he cycle straight to reach home?
A15 ✓ Correct
B20
C25
D30
Correct answer: (A) 15 — He must cycle 15 km straight, so that is the answer.
Explanation
He must cycle 15 km straight, so that is the answer.
Going 10 km south and later 10 km north cancels the vertical movement to zero.
Turning right from south makes him go west by 5 km.
After the north leg he turns left and goes a further 10 km west.
So he is 5 plus 10, which is 15 km, to the west of home.
So he must cycle 15 km straight to reach home.
