The oldest extant Nyaya text, the Nyaya-sutra, is attributed to the great guru

The Nyaya-sutra is attributed to Gautama, also called Akshapada.

It is the oldest surviving foundational text of the Nyaya school.

In it the categories and the theory of the pramanas are first laid out.

Vatsyayana later composed its authoritative commentary, the Bhashya.

The original aphorisms themselves bear Gautama's name.
