The total number of students in all colleges together is 60000 and the total number of girls is 24000. The student percentages are A 10, B 9, C 23, D 18, E 16 and F 24. The girl percentages are A 15, B 12, C 18, D 14, E 20 and F 21. Based on the data, answer the questions.
The ratio of the number of boys in College F to the number of boys in College D is
A31:39
B39:31 ✓ Correct
C39:37
D37:29
Correct answer: (B) 39:31 — The answer is 39 to 31.
Explanation
The answer is 39 to 31.
College F has 24 percent of 60000 students, which is 14400, and its girls are 5040, so its boys are 9360.
College D has 10800 students and 3360 girls, so its boys are 7440.
So the ratio is 9360 to 7440.
Dividing both by 240 gives 39 to 31.
So the ratio simplifies to 39 to 31.
So the answer is 39 to 31.
