UGC NET December 2022 (14.03.2023) Shift-I (Education)
Passage
Table 1 shows the percentage market share of the sale of buses of six automobile companies A to F in the Financial Year 2020-21, and Table 2 shows the percentage of six bus models P to U sold by company A. The company-wise shares are A 41 percent, B 8 percent, C 7 percent, D 3 percent, E 1 percent and F 40 percent. The model-wise shares for company A are P 18 percent, Q 25 percent, R 12 percent, S 15 percent, T 20 percent and U 10 percent. In the questions, the number of buses sold by D in 2020-21 is taken as 3375, or equivalently the number sold by F in 2019-20 is 40000 with a growth of twelve and a half percent in 2020-21, giving a total of 112500 buses sold by all companies. Based on the data, answer the questions.
What is the ratio of the number of buses sold by B to the number of model R buses sold by A in 2020-21?
A100:61
B1:3
C3:7
D200:123 ✓ Correct
Correct answer: (D) 200:123 — The answer is 200 to 123.
Explanation
★The answer is 200 to 123.
★Company B sold 8 percent of 112500, which is 9000.
★Model R of company A is 12 percent of A's 41 percent share, which is 5535.
★So the ratio is 9000 to 5535.
★Dividing both by 45 gives 200 to 123.
★So the ratio simplifies to 200 to 123.
★So the answer is 200 to 123.
