Paper 1 · Data Interpretation UGC NET December 2022 (01.03.2023) Shift-I
Passage
The following table presents the findings of a survey into how people travel to work. The number of people travelling to work is 72 by cycle, 18 by car, 35 by bus and 55 on foot. Note that one in eight of the people who cycled to work were found to be over 65 years of age, and one in three of the cyclists stated that they travelled to work by bus on rainy days. Based on this data, answer the questions that follow.
How many more people indicated that they cycled to work compared with those who travelled by either bus or car?
A72
B35
C18
D19 ✓ Correct
Correct answer: (D) 19 — The difference is 19, so the answer is 19.
Explanation
The difference is 19, so the answer is 19.
The number cycling to work is 72.
Those travelling by bus or car are 35 plus 18.
That is 53.
So the cyclists exceed them by 72 minus 53.
That is 19.
So the answer is 19.
