UGC NET June 2023 (21.06.2023) Shift-I
Passage
The following table shows the number of software development projects handled by two software companies A and B over five years from 2016 to 2020. Both companies handle Government Projects (GPs) and Non-Government Projects (NGPs). Company A handled 180, 230, 360, 250 and 300 projects in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 respectively. Company B handled 130, 320, 210, 190 and 350 projects in the same years respectively. Based on the data in the table, answer the questions that follow.
If the average number of NGPs handled by Company B in 2016 and 2017 together is 127, then what is the total number of GPs handled by the same company in 2016 and 2017 together?
A204
B188
C192
D196 ✓ Correct
Correct answer: (D) 196 — The total number of GPs is 196, so the answer is 196.
Explanation
★The total number of GPs is 196, so the answer is 196.
★The average of the NGPs in 2016 and 2017 is 127.
★So the total NGPs for the two years is 2 times 127, which is 254.
★Company B handled 130 projects in 2016 and 320 in 2017.
★So the total projects for the two years is 130 plus 320, which is 450.
★The GPs are the total projects minus the NGPs, which is 450 minus 254.
★That equals 196.
