Passage
The following table shows the number of software development projects handled by two software companies A and B over five years from 2016 to 2020. Both companies handle Government Projects (GPs) and Non-Government Projects (NGPs). Company A handled 180, 230, 360, 250 and 300 projects in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 respectively. Company B handled 130, 320, 210, 190 and 350 projects in the same years respectively. Based on the data in the table, answer the questions that follow.
If the number of projects to be handled by Company A increases by 20 percent from 2020 to 2021 and by 5 percent from 2021 to 2022, then what will be the number of projects handled by Company A in 2022?
A378 ✓ Correct
B372
C396
D368
Correct answer: (A) 378 — The number of projects in 2022 is 378, so the answer is 378.
Explanation
★The number of projects in 2022 is 378, so the answer is 378.
★Company A handled 300 projects in 2020.
★A 20 percent increase makes 2021 equal to 300 times 120 over 100, which is 360.
★A further 5 percent increase applies to this 360.
★So 2022 is 360 times 105 over 100.
★That is 360 times 1.05.
★That equals 378.
