Passage
The following table shows the number of employees working in four colleges A to D, split into males, females, teaching males, teaching females, non-teaching males and non-teaching females. Some values are missing and are to be calculated if required. Known figures: College A has 756 employees, 526 males and 325 teaching males; College B has 159 teaching females, 215 non-teaching males and 254 non-teaching females; College C has 159 males; College D has 224 employees, 142 males and 82 females. Based on the data, answer the questions that follow.
If the number of females in College C is 147 more than the number of females in College A, and the sum of teaching males and teaching females in College C is 115, then the sum of non-teaching males and non-teaching females in College C is
A421 ✓ Correct
B415
C467
D435
Correct answer: (A) 421 — The sum is 421, so the answer is 421.
Explanation
The sum is 421, so the answer is 421.
College A has 230 females, so College C has 230 plus 147, which is 377 females.
College C has 159 males, so its total employees are 159 plus 377, which is 536.
The sum of teaching males and teaching females in College C is 115.
The non-teaching staff is the total minus the teaching staff.
So it is 536 minus 115.
That equals 421.
