In the month of July, the votes of D and C are in the ratio 9:5. If the votes of D remain the same, then by what percentage should the votes of C increase to make the ratio 5:9 in July?
A80
B124
C144
D224 ✓ Correct
Correct answer: (D) 224 — The votes of C should increase by 224 percent, so that is the answer.
Explanation
The votes of C should increase by 224 percent, so that is the answer.
In July company D has 4.5 lakh and company C has 2.5 lakh, a 9:5 ratio.
To make the ratio D:C equal to 9:5 the other way, C must become 9 over 5 of D.
That is 9 over 5 times 4.5, which is 8.1 lakh.
The increase is 8.1 minus 2.5, which is 5.6 lakh.
5.6 as a percentage of 2.5 is 224 percent.
