The following table shows the percentage distribution of the number of members (both male and female) and of male members in five health clubs A to E in 2022. The total number of members in club C is 1764 and the number of male members in club E is 576. Percentage of members and percentage of males: A has 21% and 21%; B has 33% and 32%; C has 14% and 19%; D has 20% and 20%; E has 12% and 8%. From these the overall total members is 12600 and total males is 7200. Based on the data, answer the questions that follow.
What is the median of the number of male members for all five health clubs A to E?

Correct answer: (D) 1440 — The median number of male members is 1440, so the answer is 1440.
Explanation
★The median number of male members is 1440, so the answer is 1440.
★Male members are 1512 in A, 2304 in B, 1368 in C, 1440 in D and 576 in E.
★Arranged in ascending order they are 576, 1368, 1440, 1512 and 2304.
★With five values, the median is the third value.
★The third value in this order is 1440.
★So the median male membership is 1440.
★For an odd count of values the median is simply the middle term.
