UGC NET June 2023 (16.06.2023) Shift-I
Passage
Two tables are given. Table 1 shows the percentage distribution of candidates who qualified in a competitive examination from six states A to F during 2021 and 2022, along with the ratio of males to females among them. Qualified percent and male to female ratio: A has 18% and 5:4 in 2021, 20% and 28:17 in 2022; B has 16% and 3:1, then 12% and 5:3; C has 12% and 7:5, then 16% and 11:5; D has 16% and 13:11, then 15% and 15:11; E has 25% and 13:12, then 22% and 15:9; F has 13% and 8:1, then 15% and 11:9. Table 2 shows totals: in 2021, 142000 appeared and 45% qualified; in 2022, 180000 appeared and 52% qualified. Based on the data, answer the questions that follow.
The number of male candidates who qualified from state E in 2022 is approximately what percentage more than the number of male candidates who qualified from state F in 2021?
A72
B74 ✓ Correct
C70
D76
Correct answer: (B) 74 — The excess is about 74%, so the answer is 74.
Explanation
★The excess is about 74%, so the answer is 74.
★Total qualified in 2022 is 52% of 180000, and state E is 22% of that, then males are 15 parts of 24.
★So male qualifiers from E in 2022 are 180000 times 0.52 times 0.22 times 15 by 24, which is 12870.
★Total qualified in 2021 is 45% of 142000, and state F is 13% of that, then males are 8 parts of 9.
★So male qualifiers from F in 2021 are 142000 times 0.45 times 0.13 times 8 by 9, which is 7384.
★The excess is 12870 minus 7384, which is 5486.
★The percentage more is 5486 divided by 7384 times 100, about 74%.
